What Happens During an Aromatherapy Consultation?

An aromatherapy consult begins with you filling out a detailed assessment form covering health history, conditions, reasons for seeking aromatherapy, application preferences, and other information. I will email you this form. The form is returned to me preferably two days before the consultation so that I have time to review all the information before our meeting. Then we will have a meeting. Either in-person, via phone, via FaceTime or Skype. Meetings last anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour. During the consultation, we will review the forms you submitted. If we are meeting in person, I will bring different oils for you to smell so that I can get a sense of the aromas that you like. If we are unable to meet in person, we will go over scent profiles verbally and come up with a customized treatment plan for you.

Treatment Plan and Product Design:

Following the consultation, I will create a custom blend and product to address your needs. Some reasons to see an aromatherapist are to relieve stress, eczema, insomnia, PMS issues, Menopause, aches and pains, low libido, personal regiment, life coaching. Products can take the form of massage or bath oils, balms, creams, personal inhalers, diffusers, etc. I will design the product based on your preferences that we discuss during our consultation. Blends and products are designed to take into account your needs and unique characteristics (e.g., skin type), your preferred method of application, the therapeutic attributes of both the essential oils and the carriers (the latter also have significant healing properties) and the best method of delivery for the specific product and condition Each product is accompanied with a detailed description of the product and directions for use.


I will follow up with you for feedback on the treatment. Follow-ups also provide an opportunity to check up on whether you still have the complaint or if the blend Is working or not, and, if not, why not. Sometimes the treatment needs to be adjusted. In nearly all situations, more than one type of application will be appropriate, and essential oil and carrier blends can be altered to deliver an effective treatment. Depending on the condition and treatment regime, we will set up a follow up within a couple of days to a week. Again, depending on the condition and regiment, this follow -up can take place over the phone or in person. Multiple follow ups are not uncommon. Additional reviews and treatment adjustments are likely with chronic conditions and long-term regimes.
