This summer is a great time to try citrus body scrubs. Natural products containing kitchen ingredients are a simple way to maintain your skincare. Home remedies are extremely popular and today I will share one with you. Brown sugar is an inexpensive way to exfoliate the skin. Sugar is a source of glycolic acid and can penetrate the skin due to its diminutive molecular size and this makes sugar a great exfoliate for dead skin. Benefits:
Radiant Glow Let us begin with the thought that exfoliation and the removal of dead skins encourage the outer skin to glow. Sugar also can hydrate as it exfoliates and that produces an extraordinary combination for radiant skin. Moisturizer When selecting a sugar for your scrub remember raw sugar is course however brown sugar is gentler on the skin. Brown sugar is a substance that works as a humectant. That means it is a food additive that draws moisture from the environment. Brown sugar can keep your skin soft and moisturized. Lightens Scars The one element of using brown sugar is for the glycolic acid properties. Glycolic acid present in brown sugar can lighten skin and diminish scars when used regularly. This quality is excellent when minor cuts and abrasions need to be diminished. Essential Oils Citrus essential oils are uplifting, energetic, and calming at the same time. The aromatic aroma during the summer is a perfect blend when formulating. Their ability to reduce feelings of stress and boost the mood offers immense joy to all who use citrus oils. I would recommend citrus oils in blends that wash off the skin because citrus oils are phototoxic. This means the oils can cause a skin reaction if exposed to the sun. Ingredients for a Brown Sugar Body Scrub Citrus Brown Sugar Scrub Supplies Glass container ½ cup Fractionated Coconut Oil 10 drops of Lemon 10 drops of Mandarin 5 drops of Tangerine 5 drops of Orange ¾ cup Brown Sugar Instructions Combine essential oils and Fractionated Coconut Oil in a bowl. Include essential oils and stir. Add sugar. Put in a glass container. Use on hands, feet, and any rough patches of skin a few times a week. PRO TIP: There are citrus oils that are steam distilled and do not cause photo-sensitivity however, without the proper guidance from an experienced Aromatherapist I would not recommend citrus oils for daily use other than in this setting if formulating the scrub yourself.
